LAVOLA – “This Book is My Cowardice” Album Review

Anyone who knows me knows I like strange noises. Lavola is a strange noise. They caught my attention after one listen to their new album This Book is My Cowardice. What makes them strange? Simple. They don’t sound like every other band out there. They stand on their own with their own sound. They may be a acquired taste, but it’s a taste that sticks with you in a good way.

Their new album will be released March 4th and I’m not really sure if anyone will be ready for what they are about to unleash. But the reactions will be entertaining to watch. I may be a little biased to write a great review for this album though. They have worked their way onto my iPod with no signs of ever leaving it. And, once again, anyone who knows me knows this isn’t easy to become part of. But I’m just a man, with words, about an album written on a blog on the internet just like every other blog out there. So you’ll just have to take my word on this one.

These collection of strange noises begins with the tune “Show Your Face, Motherfucker”. Organized chaos will be a pair of words I will be using frequently to describe Lavola. If you read the title to this song, you would expect something heavy and pissed off but you’ll get the opposite. Killing them with a ironic kindness is how I would put it.

“Dry Socket” is a dark song that questions the insanity of the survivalist. “An Orchestral Balancing Act” is part of the whole ‘Strange Noises’ that I enjoy. When there are no words, sometimes, you can express more.

With songs like “Healing Eye”, Pearl & Rust” and “Watch Your Step” you never know exactly what you are going to get. Sometimes reading the lyrics is like reading a diary of a serial killer. But when you hear the controlled chaos of strange noises they create it becomes something very beautiful. And that right there is the best description of the album.

Go check out Lavola, await the new album This Book is My Cowardice and purchase it. Listen, Share, Repeat.
